From Buenos Aires to Newark Street

Medialunas that began as a taste of home.

Sofia Di Pinto grew up in Buenos Aires, trained as a pastry chef at the Argentine Institute of Gastronomy and ran her own baking business before her husband’s job brought her to the US in 2022. In 2023 she launched Di Blu online from her Jersey City apartment, and early in 2025 Di Blu opened its own baking studio at 600 Newark Street in Hoboken. The name plays on her surname and on “Nel blu, dipinto di blu,” the classic Italian song better known as “Volare.”

“When I first arrived to the US, I started baking medialunas because my family and I missed that taste of Argentina.”Sofia Di Pinto, to The Hoboken Girl, 2024

The menu

Medialunas, alfajores and Argentine cakes, made by hand.

Each medialuna is rolled by hand with a touch of orange, then brushed with syrup after baking for a glossy, caramelized finish. Each alfajor is filled by hand with dulce de leche, and the brownies come from Sofia’s mother’s recipe.
