Owner story · Downtown Jersey City
“We are just in love with this area.”
Nicole Pina · Co-owner, Gussy’s Cafe

Why “Gussy’s”?
Diner classics, trimmed down to a friendly neighborhood cafe.
Gus Theodosiou has worked in diners most of his life; his family owns one on Long Island. After he and his wife, Nicole Pina, moved to Jersey City, he set out to bring the diner’s classic American staples and its quick, efficient service to a smaller menu of great quality, in a cafe whose look Nicole created. In June 2021 they got to work on the old FM bar, just off the Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza, and Gussy’s opened in June 2022. The name comes from Nicole’s little niece, who always calls Gus “Gussy.”
“We just thought that it was a very friendly name and that’s exactly what we want the cafe to be — just this friendly neighborhood spot.”Nicole Pina, to The Hoboken Girl, 2022

The menu
Something delicious for everyone, with brunch all day.
Brunch is served all day: country eggs with signature home fries, homemade pancakes, challah French toast, eggs Benedict and three-egg omelettes. Then come sandwiches like The Gussy, a fried chicken cutlet with bacon, cheddar and chipotle mayo on ciabatta, burgers made with Pat LaFrieda patties, and farro bowls. A house gochujang aioli turns up on the breakfast sandwiches and the burgers, and the coffee bar pours matcha, chai, and turmeric and beetroot lattes.
