A University City favorite, a short walk from Rittenhouse Square.

Koreana started out in University City, at 38th and Chestnut, and spent 15 years as a campus staple for Penn students. By 2018 it had brought the same dishes to 37 South 19th Street, a short walk from Rittenhouse Square. The kitchen makes its own sauces and cooks from traditional recipes, and the cozy dining room serves lunch and dinner six days a week.

The menu

Bulgogi bentos, hot stone bowls and kimbap by the roll.

The bento boxes set bulgogi, spicy pork, LA galbi or teriyaki beside fresh veggies, crispy dumplings and kimbap. Cup bap layers the same mains over rice and glass noodles, dolsot bowls arrive in a hot stone with a fried egg, and the stews run from soondubu and kimchi jjigae to galbi tang. Then there’s the Koreana Burrito: kimchi fried rice, pico de gallo, mozzarella and chipotle mayo in a tortilla.
