Mama’s Tacos brings the heart of Mexico to Washington Avenue in South Beach. Its tacos are made fresh every day, street-style, to be eaten by hand with a squeeze of lime, and the grill never stops sizzling. Inside, papel picado, hand-painted tile and neon set the scene around a margarita bar; out front, painted tables and chairs line the sidewalk under an orange awning. Guests have left it more than 15,000 Google reviews, at an average of 4.8 stars.

The menu

Birria tacos are a Mama’s favorite.

The birria comes with consommé for dipping, and guests mention it in review after review. The tacos run from achiote pork al pastor with grilled pineapple and Yucatán-style cochinita pibil to Angus ribeye, tempura fish and chipotle shrimp. Then come burritos and quesadillas, enchiladas in red or green sauce, sizzling fajitas, lava-rock molcajetes, aguachiles and ceviche, coal-grilled elotes with cotija and tajín, and churros and tres leches to finish.
