Sam Mink’s family has served seafood in Philadelphia since 1947, and his father opened Oyster House on Sansom St in 1976. In 2016 Sam went upstairs, into the old Nodding Head Brewery, and opened Mission with Oyster House chef Brett Naylor, after nine years in San Francisco’s Mission District and trips to Mexico City. Daniel McLaughlin, who has run Mission since it opened, is now its co-owner. Both restaurants are LGBTQ+-owned and family-run.

“We’re hoping to replicate that and create a space and menu that really transports you.”Sam Mink, to PA Eats, 2016

The menu

The whole menu is gluten free. “Even the churros. :)”

Every tortilla is handmade from fresh masa, ground from heirloom corn imported from Mexico. Tacos come off a wood-fired grill with four house salsas, juices are pressed at the bar, and margaritas come by the pitcher: “lo quieres spicy!? ¿si o no?”
